RAINFORESTS IN 5K
This term 5K have been learning about Rainforests. We have learnt that Rainforests are called the lungs of the Earth and they are one of the Earth’s most precious resources. Rainforests provide a home for millions of species of plants and animals. We have made some beautiful terrariums as a design and make project. We also followed instructions to sketch rainforest animals.

Student and Teacher Blog - Week 8 Term 1
On Tuesday 20th of March 2H went outside to tally the colour of cars that went past St Michaels. We tallied 32 cars altogether. We then put this data into a column graph and discovered the most popular coloured car was white and the least popular coloured car was black and yellow as no black or yellow cars passed the school during that time.
We enjoyed our activity because we got to go outside!

Mrs Keenan's Technology Class
This term in Technology we will be making a 2-3 minute iMovie. This short movie will be promoting a sport. Some groups have made movies about netball, some athletics and some footy. We will be using the school flip cameras and also some new smaller Hue web cameras so we can make stop motion clips. Our group has chosen to promote netball. Our title is Netball Newsflash. Different groups have chosen to promote their sport in various ways. For example our group has chosen to promote our sport by having a news reporter interview 2 netball stars about why netball is a really good sport and how to play it. It is really fun and energetic to play.

Library News- Maths World Day and World Read Aloud Day
This week has been another busy one in the Library with 2 special world wide events, both on Wednesday 7th March.
World Maths Day saw students armed with passwords logging in to play against other students from all around the world in real time. It was exciting waiting to see which countries were selected randomly to provide opponents. Many of our students scored several hundred points through the day, and then went home to participate some more. Final scores will be available shortly.

World Read Aloud Day is promoted as being beneficial to encourage reluctant readers to find enjoyment in stories, and motivate them to read more often.
Reading and listening to good stories is a highlight of my life, and I would love to develop this same feeling in all our students. Reading helps us escape hard work, monotony and boredom, even if just for a short time. It allows us to “travel” to other places and share experiences with characters that we would never have ourselves. It helps us expand our imaginations and makes us better readers (and writers)
We have a wonderful collection of stories in our Library suitable for young and old. I would encourage parents to take time to read with children whenever you get the chance. Maybe “Book in” a time at least once a week when you can read and discuss favourite parts of favourite books. Picture books can be simply fun, or quite inspirational and sometimes challenging for older students and adults.
Here are some photos of both these events.

4S Take a look at our work so far!!
During Term 1, 4S have been extremely busy learning new things. We are also getting to know our class mates and teacher.
In math we have been learning about whole numbers, multiplication, subtraction and algebra.
For HSIE we have been researching our family’s history and have traced our individual family’s tree.
In English we have been reading the novel ‘Five Times Dizzy’ by the author Nadia Wheatley. The book is about a Greek family that is living in Newtown and trying to help the grandmother fit in.
As part of Religion studies we have been learning about the different types of prayers, such as, Praise, Sorrow, Petition and Thanks. We have also been studying the passage about ‘Jesus healing a blind man’.
Although we have been busy working hard, we have had fun learning with Mrs Siracusa.

6C ASSESSMENT ON jn 13:1-14 Jesus washes HIS DISCIPLES FEET
During the first weeks of school Year 6 have been learning about "Servant Leadership". We conclude this unit with an Assessment based on the scripture passage in the Gospel of John.
It was the day before the passover festival and Jesus and his disciples were gathered for the Last Supper. Jesus knelt before the disciples and washed their feet- Why? He is our Leader, our King, why wash the feet of his disciples? How can we be Servant Leaders?
As a grade the students aim to answer these questions.
Stay tuned for our responses.

4M ART BLOG
4m has done some awesome artworks in class and has loved doing it. We have started with some amazing historical buildings such as the South American Teepee and Machu Pichu. We started with choosing a picture then we started drawing our picture. We then outlined the picture with a black texta [Pernament marker] then we shaded the picture with our pencil. They all looked very nice and had lots of detail.
We also did some PERSPECTIVE drawing and also learnt some new words. When we started our PERSPECTIVE drawing we got to choose what we wanted to do. We could choose if we wanted to do a countryside or a city. We had lots of fun. We also drew a house that we would like. Some houses had telepoters and underground hideouts.
4M really loved doing this artwork and had lots of fun. You can have a go yourself, look at our pictures at the bottom of this page. You can also come to our school @ S.T MICHAELS SCHOOL BLACKTOWN SOUTH RESOVOIR RD. Thanks for reading 4M’s ART BLOG.

4M’S MATH’S BLOG
On the 24.3.12 of February 4M did Math’s groups. My partner Matthew Cirjak and I did Math’s problem solving, the first problem was seven x three, the answer is twenty-one.
I enjoyed the Math’s because it was very challenging and fun.
Matthew and I had to play two games. Matthew won the first game and I won the second game.
It was very funny because Matthew and I kept getting the same number when we rolled the dice.
I loved doing the math’s with my friend Matthew.

Maths Blog 2
4M has done some amazing problem solving in the past week. Everyone was with a partnered and started their Math’s. When 4M started their problem solving Mrs. Mastrosa handed out the math’s sheet and then got partnered with a finished student. Eric and Ryan finished first and everyone else finished at the same time.
4M had an awesome time doing math’s problem solving. But we also did other math’s the next day, we did patterns and algerbra. And also 4M did so much math’s that day. We did many patterns that were challenging and even made our own patterns also the questions we did were hard that’s why we have a parter.
