Preparing for Christmas
A special season
For Christians, Christmas is that special time for celebrating the birth of Jesus. The gift-giving, special greetings and celebrations in which everyone participates all originate in this great religious celebration of promise, hope and joy.
The Church prepares for Christmas through a month-long season called Advent. The word means ‘coming’ and its purpose is to get ready for the coming of Jesus – God's great gift to humankind.
The Christ-child born at Bethlehem grew into the man who preached good news of liberation and salvation to the world. His ‘peace on earth’ is peace for all nations and families, a peace that can exist within ourselves and in our relationship with a loving God.
