Educating for the future
The learning journey at St Michael's honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
Educating for the future
The key learning areas
We follow the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) approved curriculum in the key learning areas of:
Religious education
As a Catholic school we also have a strong religious dimension that runs through all the KLAs and is also formally recognised as the KLA of Religious Education.
St Michael's students take part in formal Religious Education every day, based on the new Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese curriculum, Encountering Jesus. This curriculum invites all students to consider how the teachings of Jesus Christ can apply to their lives.
Religious education
St Michael’s Primary fosters academic excellence in every student.
Our vision is to be be a learning community that educates the whole child – academically, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Our K-6 school combines high expectations with loving support. It is a place where students are empowered with a sense of hope for the future.
Each child is equipped with the all the skills and resources they need as they work towards their full potential
As the building blocks for all learning, we have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy throughout our learning and teaching programs.
Literacy
English learning at St Michael’s is grounded in the content and processes outlined in the NSW English Syllabus. Students become confident readers, writers and speakers through a balanced literacy model that combines various instructed, independent and group activities.
Literacy education is supported by an extensive range of high-quality reading and library resources, and learning technology. We offer robust assessment and early intervention programs such as MacLit for students with additional English and communication needs.
Numeracy
At St Michael's, we have a special focus on teaching numeracy and our teachers undertaking expert professional development in maths education. From K-6, students develop strong foundations in working mathematically across number, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability.
Additional numeracy support is available through our Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) program. Students can also compete in the Maths Olympiad for an extra challenge.
We offer a varied curriculum that is engaging and relevant!
